The Wards
Brad Trish Sydney & Sammey
Our journey to Honduras started in Oaxaca, Mexico. Well, I guess technically it started in Bend, OR, but spiritually it started in Oaxaca. Back in 1997 we had the opportunity to be part of our church’s first ever short term mission trip. We traveled to Oaxaca, and worked with Northwest Medical Teams to help bring drinking water to a remote village. God used that and 4 subsequent trips south of the border, to help us hear His call on our lives to come work with Him in Latin America.
In 2006 we sold our “stuff,” our business and our house and headed off to Costa Rica for a year of language school. We are so thankful for this year of preparation. Not only did we gain the ability to communicate at a decent level, but we also gained a better understanding of Latin American culture and people.
In August of 2007 we graduated from language school and moved to Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. Santa Rosa is a small city located in the western mountains of Honduras, near the El Salvadorian and Guatemalan borders.
In July of 2009 we moved to the north coast of Honduras to work with Hospital Loma de Luz. This hospital serves the area's poor and has many outreach opportunities.
Brad is working to plant crops and teach locals how to grow more productive gardens to help with the food costs. Trish is working with the eye clinic and continues to provide home schooling for both girls.
