Discover how you and Provision Ministries International worked with the Good Samaritan Mission in the rebuilding of the Kolluru Orphanage in India.
In 2018, an orphanage in Andhra Pradesh, India, was condemned. Ruined by flood damage and time, the government tore down these children’s home. They are currently in temporary housing situations, hoping, praying, and waiting for a new building where they can be together with their family once again. A building where they can continue to be fed, clothed, loved, and best of all, educated. We are partnering with Good Samaritan Mission in India to build a home for these children, and many generations to come. God loves all the children fiercely; our hearts break for what breaks His. We thank you for your interest in partnering with us to change these precious children’s world.
In 2018, plans to build a new orphanage in Andhra Pradesh, India are finished and ready to be funded
The previous facility was condemned, torn down, and cleared for a new building.
Planned as a sustainable project – We originally planned to use the bottom floor as rentable storage, however, we built a raised building pad above the projected water line, so the downstairs is now a part of the main orphanage.
The total cost of the three-story orphanage was $113,000 (Fully Funded!) It has all come in!

Summer Of 2020
While most of the country of India is in lock-down, the area where the orphanage is located has recently opened up so the work continues. Staff, children, and workers tested negative for the virus.
Good Samaritan Mission has been able to feed thousands of people during the pandemic while practicing safe protocols.
Good Samaritan Mission has been providing medicine to thousands of people in local communities, during the pandemic.
Wet concrete creates heat. To cool the concrete as it cures, they use the traditional method of keeping the surface wet using wet straw on top of, or next to, the concrete.

Interior Brick Walls

Header Support
Strategic placement of support implements hold header bracing of window openings, doors and archways in place while mud and mortar cures to full strength.
Cured Portion Of Wall
This portion of the wall has cured enough for the further laying of bricks upon it and across the opening, to the right, joining two walls via a common header.

In the Spring of 2021, James of Good Samaritan Mission sends greetings and encouraging news of the incredible progress on the Kolluru Orphanage. He says, “The India team is working diligently in the attempt to finish the building in the first half of this year! Please continue to pray.”

Construction is nearing completion on portions of the second floor of the Kolluru Orphanage.
Brick Walls

Masonry Teamwork
Laying and placing clay bricks in the bed of mud while others mix the mud and deliver the bricks. Traditional craftsmanship at its best.
Mud
Raw materials that make up the mud. A precise recipe of sand and liquid for the optimal mortar mix; stiff and yet, pliable.

Door jambs are placed in wall openings, then leveled and squared with precision.
Interior Walls

This wall is nearing completion as the craftsmen will incorporate a door header and fit the last few rows of brick.

Second & Third Floors
This is incredible progress, especially in light of the fact construction was halted as a result of the government imposed shutdown due to claims a virus was spreading across India.

The plastering of the exterior walls is a big job that is reserved for those brave souls who scale the log and timber scaffolding.

The end of 2021 is now in sight! With craziness all around us, there is still much to be thankful for. We, at PMI, are thankful for each of you. Your prayers, encouragement, and gifts have touched lives on the other side of the world. We are nearing completion of our goal to raise $113,000 to rebuild an orphanage that was destroyed in a storm. We lack approximately $20,000 to fulfill our commitment. However, we believe that with “end of year” giving, we will be within our target of reaching this mark even though a few additional expenses are expected due to Covid delays and building material price increases.
The facility takes up most of the land owned by the orphanage. With 75 children, a place to play is a necessity. We would be thrilled to help purchase enough land for a playground, a garden, and perhaps a few livestock. A garden and livestock can supplement their food budget with chickens providing eggs and meat and goats providing milk. As we near the completion of the building project, with a bit more effort, we can help get the orphanage up and running again.
From our PMI board and volunteers, we wish you a blessed Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas! May 2022 bring blessings your way.

Finishing touches are being applied to septic tanks, walkways, and exterior walls.

A six-foot corridor has been built for the front of the building.
Exterior Walls Masonry
The exterior part of the building is 98% finished. The walls are being concrete plastered and textured. Once dry, they are ready to paint.

Two exterior sides have been painted with yellow trim. This is the finished product and gives an idea of what this facility will look like when completed.

We are excited to report that by the end of December, we reached our goal of raising $113,000 to build the new orphanage facility in India! A special thanks for all who assisted in this effort. Your gifts and prayers have pushed this from a dream to a reality. With the progress that has been made and with the Covid developments that have slowed the construction progress, the end is in sight! Their “move-in” date is now slated for June 2022.
Upcoming Visit – We are looking forward to having Prakash, and his son, James, in Central Oregon in the next couple of months. They will provide updates on the orphanage and the children, and what comes next for their project. We will keep you informed of all of this as we approach the day the children move in.
