Across India there are communities that do not have access to clean drinking water. There may be water, but it is often contaminated, making it a source of illness and death. There are poor villages where young and old alike must travel, many times on foot for a journey of 8 to 10 miles, to access clean water. They then carry this water on their heads as they walk back with this heavy, yet precious, commodity.
Good Samaritan Mission (GSM), a partner with Provision Ministries, hires companies to drill a well and install a hand pump in local communities. Concrete, around the well, prevents unclean water from contaminating the well. The result is a hand pumped well with fresh drinking water for the people surrounding the community. Depending on the type of soil that is encountered, each well costs approximately $1,000 USD. The finished product touches many lives for years to come. Each well is dedicated to the financial donor with a plaque set next to the well. Those who come to get fresh water are reminded of those who made it possible and are asked to pray a prayer of thanksgiving and blessing over the donor! Below are photos of two well dedications provided through the donations of Harry & Sharlotte Miller, and by the Randy & Tanya Ozinga family.
